Trip Highlights

Wild Frontiers🌅 This unique expedition sails between Komodo National Park and Sumbawa Island, combining world-class dive sites with remote exploration and one truly unforgettable highlight: snorkeling or diving with whale sharks in Saleh Bay. With fewer boats and more wild nature, this itinerary is ideal for those seeking off-the-map marine adventures.

Famous Divesites💫 The Komodo-Sumbawa region in Indonesia is home to one of world's most famous and renowned divests. From the whale sharks of "Saleh Bay", to the coral covered seamount of "Batu Bolong" and the iconic pinnacles on "Crystal and Castle rock", the area is bursting with life and diving splendour for every type of diver. 💥

Manta Rays☁️ One of the unquestionable highlights for divers in Komodo are without doubt the humongous manta rays. The two species are the Reef manta rays and the Giant manta rays. They fly by at cleaning stations, circling as a gigantic carpet above and around divers! So sick ☁️

Trip description

Indonesia gets under your skin. Turquoise water, green hills tumbling straight into the sea, wooden boats anchored in bays that look made up. The call to prayer drifts across the water at dawn and you remember where you are.

Komodo sits in the middle of it. Volcanic islands rising out of the Flores Sea, dry and golden in the sun. Pink sand beaches, the colour pulled from crushed red coral. Dragons walking around like they own the place, because they do. Reefs underneath that are some of the richest in the world.

The diving is the reason you came. Currents that carry you past walls of soft coral, pinks and oranges pulsing in the flow. Mantas at the cleaning stations, turning slow circles in the blue. Sharks holding in the current at Crystal and Castle Rock, effortless while you grip the rocks and watch.

Slow it down on Cannibal Rock and the macro takes over. Pygmy seahorses tucked into the fans, frogfish sitting still, nudibranchs in patterns that look painted. Different every dive, and that is the part you cannot quite explain to people back home.

Komodo earns its reputation. Strong currents, water full of life, and topside scenery (volcanic islands, pink sand beaches, actual dragons) that keeps up with what happens below.

The diving is wild. Crystal Rock and Castle Rock for reef sharks in the current. The Cauldron for fast drifts and mantas overhead. Batu Bolong, a coral covered seamount that lives up to the hype. And on slower dives, all the macro you can handle.

The Duyung Baru is a traditional 27-meter Indonesian Phinisi liveaboard. We like this vessel for its intimate, small-group diving, accommodating only 6 to 8 guests per trip. Based in Labuan Bajo, it operates year-round, offering expert-led itineraries to explore the world-class dive sites and coral reefs of Komodo National Park.

The Duyung Baru is small by liveaboard standards. 8 guests, 4 cabins, good crew, good food, space to unwind. Simona is running the trip. Seven nights, six diving days, no rush.
