Bumphead Spawning 🌕 The parrotfish aggregation is one of the underwater highlights of Palau and probably the whole region. During the new moon phases, thousands of bumphead parrotfish come together to spawn, in what is considered the largest bumphead parrotfish aggregation in the world. This much ocean activity also attracts a large number of underwater predators, providing a unique underwater spectacle.
The Black Pearl 🛥️ Built with state-of-the-art technology, the recently built MY Black Pearl liveaboard is one of the most luxurious vessels that cruise through the pristine waters of Palau. Service level and accommodations on this boat are generally rated as five-star. It's a beauty of a boat that seemingly blends in with the natural wonders around it.
Fish Bonanza 🐠 This trip is about insane quantities of fish. Whether it is snappers, moorish idols, bumphead parrotfish: hundreds and even thousands of them roam these waters. That feeling of being in an overwhelmingly large school of uncountable fish just hits different, and gives divers a true of idea the vast quantities of life there is still left in our oceans,
Palau is considered one of the most impressive dive destinations in the western Pacific, known for its high biodiversity, well-defined reef structures, and current-swept channels. The archipelago offers a remarkable variety of underwater landscapes, ranging from steep walls and plateaus to caves, channels, and sheltered lagoons.
Many of Palau’s signature dive sites are located in areas with strong currents and are therefore best suited for experienced divers. Encounters with large pelagic species such as sharks and manta rays, as well as dense schools of reef fish, are common, complemented by vibrant hard and soft coral formations.
A key aspect of diving in Palau is the strong emphasis on marine conservation. Large parts of the surrounding waters are strictly protected, resulting in a healthy marine ecosystem and excellent visibility. Diving activities follow local regulations and are led by knowledgeable local guides.
Beyond diving, Palau offers a calm, nature-focused setting with lush vegetation, lagoon systems, and remote islands. The combination of demanding diving conditions, professional operations, and a clear commitment to sustainability makes Palau a destination for divers seeking high-quality, authentic underwater experiences.

Getting to Palau takes real travel time. So the boat waiting for you had better earn it. The Black Pearl does. At over 46 metres she's built to the International Integrity Stability Standard, finished with top-grade materials and rigged with the latest in navigation, safety and dive systems. We picked her for a simple reason: a destination this far out deserves a boat that delivers everything an advanced diver actually needs. Spacious, up-market cabins, proper camera space, genuinely stellar food and a crew that reads Palau's currents like locals. Between dives there's room to spread out and recharge: a deck whirlpool, a bar, indoor and outdoor dining, gym equipment and a quiet business corner. Comfort and a little luxury, exactly where you want it after a day in the blue.
On the right days, Palau hands you one of diving's great spectacles and select Black Pearl departures are timed to catch it. Around specific lunar phases, huge aggregations of bumphead parrotfish mass on known reefs and spawn in a single coordinated rush: hundreds of metre-long fish moving as one through strong current, clouding the water. It's loud, chaotic and unforgettable.
These dives live and die by the tides and the moon, so the crew plans them carefully and runs them only when conditions allow always with a light footprint on the reef. Paired with Palau's signature drift dives, pelagic encounters and pristine walls, it makes a trip built for experienced divers chasing a marine phenomenon you simply can't see on demand anywhere else.
